The Kings Highway

The King's Highway of Jordan is one of the most ancient trade routes known across the world. Designed to serve the Middle East, it started in Egypt and expanded across the Sinai Peninsula into Aqaba, Jordan and Damascus. The Nabateans favoured this trade route for transporting spices and frankincense. The Highway also served as a pilgrimage road for Christians to visit holy places.

The Monastery

If you are planning to visit Petra, Jordan, don’t forget to pay a visit to the majestic Al -Deir monastery dedicated to the Nabatean King Obodas. The building is called “THE MONASTERY” because of the deep-seated crosses carved in its wall. It lies north of the city centre of Petra and served as a temple for centuries.

The Kingdom of Jordan lies in the south-western segment of Asia. It is bordered by Syria on the north, by Iraq on the east, by Israel on the west and with Saudi on both south and eastern sides. Popularly known as gamma global city, Amman, Jordan's rich capital is the centre of business and trade in the region. If you want a taste of this city’s rich history, then head to Jabal Amman, a popular tourist spot which showcases beautiful museums, enchanting souks, old structures and cultural sites. Another of Amman's famous hubs is Citadel Hill also known as Jabal al-Qal'a, where you’ll get a glimpse of the temple of Hercules, built by the Emperor Marcus Aurelia. While in Amman don’t miss the huge Roman styled theatre which is the largest in Jordan and can hold around 6000 spectators.

Wadi Rum, also known as the Valley of the Moon, is located in south Jordan, 60 km (about 37 miles) east of Aqaba.

From Israel to Petra

The Nabataea ruins of Petra are situated in the Arabah desert, and are an amazing archaeological achievement, famous for the water conduits system and rock cut architecture. This ancient capital city lies on the Mount Horslope and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you’re visiting Jordan, then Petra hould definitely be a stop in your itinerary. If you are touring Israel and have the time (as little as one day) and want to see a wondrous sight, you should consider adding on Petra.

Weather in Jordan

If you’re planning to visit Jordan, it’s good to know a little about its climate. During summer, the country gets semi-dry and can go up to 30 °C. In winter, it can get at cold as 3 °C. There is greater precipitation in the western region especially between November and March when it snows in Amman. Jordan has a Mediterranean-style climate as the summers are hot and dry while the winters are relatively cool.
