Petra and Jordan

Be your own ”king of the road” and travel the same highway that the Nabeteans used on the ancient trade route connecting Egypt with Jordan and see not only the wonders of Petra but much, much more.

Whether travelling from Amman, the Allenby Bridge near Jerusalem or coming via the Arava Crossing from Eilat to Aqaba, let IsraelExperts introduce you to the area with a broad range of programs to explore the wonders of Petra – and all of Jordan. You can follow the route of the King’s Highway, which spanned the Sinai Peninsula to serve as a spice and frankincense route allowing the Nabataeans to reach communities in Egypt, Jordan and Damascus. The Highway also served as the route for Christian pilgrims to reach a wide number of destinations in the region.

There is a myriad of choices but let’s begin with the obvious: The Rose City of Petra. Made famous in our times by the Spielberg film, “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” Petra was a destination for thousands of years and the main attraction of a trip to Jordan. UNESCO recognized the temple as a World Heritage site. Even if you didn’t see the movie, after reaching it by trekking the equally glorious walk through the Siq gorge, every visitor will clearly understand why UNESCO reached its decision and agree that it was well worth the hike and the return trip. A horse-back option, to take a load off or just for the fun of getting into a saddle to reach the temple is also an available option. The carvings into the red stone are a breath-taking testament to the rich culture which produced it.
