THERE IS AN UNUSUAL AND INTERESTING STORY ASSOCIATED WITH THE BORDER CROSSING: Israel’s Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Jordan’s King Hussein signed the Declaration of Intents Agreement on July 25, 1994 in Washington. At the signing it was declared that the border crossing would open within 2 weeks.
In October 1994, this border crossing was the site of the signing of the Peace Agreement between the State of Israel and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, with US President Bill Clinton in attendance.
In February 2006, the Israelis renamed their border terminal the Yitzhak Rabin Terminal, in memory of the late Prime Minister.
