There is no question that Petra by daylight is a sight to behold. However, at night it becomes a magnificent spectacle that you need to see to believe. It’s no wonder that tourists from across the world come to witness Petra by night on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The light show starts around 8:30pm and is one experience you don’t want to miss.
You’ll see the narrow canyon of the Siq in a completely new light. As you walk the candle lit path all the way to Al KHAZNEH, you’ll remember the traders of old and see the beautiful sandstone walls exactly how they did. As you get closer to the Treasury, the view will only get better, so be prepared to see a visual treat that you won’t easily forget.
After your walk through the Siq you’ll come to the base of the Treasury where you’ll sit on the ground and relax with a hot cup of tea. What could be better than sitting under a star lit sky, amidst a thousand candles, listening to traditional Bedouin music? You certainly won’t be in a hurry to leave. Normally, there is one round of music by a musician playing the ancient string instrument known as the rebab, and another by a flautist. One of them may even tell you a story or two!
Tickets are priced at JD 12 and can be bought at the main gate. Get to the gates as early as possible to avoid a last minute rush. You’ll want to sit towards the front to be able to fully appreciate the beauty and grandeur of Petra by night.
